A reading of the prophet Zechariah
ZEC 9:9-10

Thus says the LORD:
Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion,
shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king shall come to you;
a just savior is he,
meek, and riding on an ass,
on a colt, the foal of an ass.
He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim,
and the horse from Jerusalem;
the warrior’s bow shall be banished,
and he shall proclaim peace to the nations.
His dominion shall be from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans
ROM 8:9, 11-13

Brothers and sisters:
You are not in the flesh;
on the contrary, you are in the spirit,
if only the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,
the one who raised Christ from the dead
will give life to your mortal bodies also,
through his Spirit that dwells in you.
Consequently, brothers and sisters,
we are not debtors to the flesh,
to live according to the flesh.
For if you live according to the flesh, you will die,
but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,
you will live.

From the Gospel according to Matthew
MT 11:25-30

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to little ones.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

He was enamoured of our smallness, and for this reason He has chosen us. And He chooses the small: not the great, the small. And He is revealed to the small: ‘you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.’ He is revealed to the little ones: if you want to understand something of the mystery of Jesus, lower yourself: make yourself small. Be mindful of being nothing. And He not only chooses and reveals Himself to the little ones; He calls the little ones: ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest.’ You that are the smallest – because of suffering, because of fatigue – He chooses the little ones, He is revealed to the little ones, and He calls the little ones. But the great, does He not call them? His heart is open, but the great do not recognize His voice because they are not able to hear it because they are full of themselves. To hear the voice of the Lord, you must make yourself little. (Santa Marta, 23 June 2017)

Primera lectura

Mira a tu rey que viene a ti pobre.
Lectura de la profecía de Zacarías 9, 9-10

Esto dice el Señor:
“Alégrate sobremanera, hija de Sión;
da gritos de júbilo, hija de Jerusalén;
mira a tu rey que viene a ti,
justo y victorioso,
humilde y montado en un burrito.

Él hará desaparecer de la tierra de Efraín los carros de guerra,
y de Jerusalén, los caballos de combate.
Romperá el arco del guerrero
y anunciará la paz a las naciones.
Su poder se extenderá de mar a mar
y desde el gran río hasta los últimos rincones de la tierra’’.

Palabra de Dios.

Sal 144, 1-2. 8-9. 10-11. 13cd-14
R. Bendeciré tu nombre por siempre, Dios mío, mi rey.

Te ensalzaré, Dios mío, mi rey;
bendeciré tu nombre por siempre jamás.
Día tras día, te bendeciré
y alabaré tu nombre por siempre jamás. R.

El Señor es clemente y misericordioso,
lento a la cólera y rico en piedad;
el Señor es bueno con todos,
es cariñoso con todas sus criaturas. R.

Que todas tus criaturas te den gracias, Señor,
que te bendigan tus fieles.
Que proclamen la gloria de tu reinado,
que hablen de tus hazañas. R.

El Señor es fiel a sus palabras,
bondadoso en todas sus acciones.
El Señor sostiene a los que van a caer,
endereza a los que ya se doblan. R.

SEGUNDA LECTURA
Si con el Espíritu dais muerte a las obras del cuerpo, viviréis.
Lectura de la carta del apóstol san Pablo a los Romanos 8, 9. 11-13

Hermanos: Ustedes no viven conforme al desorden egoísta del hombre, sino conforme al Espíritu, puesto que el Espíritu de Dios habita verdaderamente en ustedes. Quien no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo, no es de Cristo. Si el Espíritu del Padre, que resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos habita en ustedes, entonces el Padre, que resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos, también les dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales, por obra de su Espíritu, que habita en ustedes.

Por lo tanto, hermanos, no estamos sujetos al desorden egoísta del hombre, para hacer de ese desorden nuestra regla de conducta. Pues si ustedes viven de ese modo, ciertamente serán destruidos. Por el contrario, si con la ayuda del Espíritu destruyen sus malas acciones, entonces vivirán.

Bendito seas, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra,
porque has revelado los misterios del reino a los pequeños. R.

EVANGELIO
Soy manso y humilde de corazón.
Lectura del santo Evangelio según san Mateo 11, 25-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús exclamó: “¡Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has escondido estas cosas a los sabios y entendidos, y las has revelado a la gente sencilla! Gracias, Padre, porque así te ha parecido bien.

El Padre ha puesto todas las cosas en mis manos. Nadie conoce al Hijo sino el Padre; nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.

Vengan a mí, todos los que están fatigados y agobiados por la carga y yo les daré alivio. Tomen mi yugo sobre ustedes y aprendan de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón, y encontrarán descanso, porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga, ligera’’.

Palabra del Señor.

“Se enamoró de nuestra pequeñez y por eso nos eligió. Y elige los pequeños: no los grandes, los pequeños. Y se revela a los pequeños: ‘Has ocultado estas cosas a los sabios y entendidos y se las has revelado a los pequeños’. Él se revela a los pequeños: si quieres entender algo del misterio de Jesús, abájate: hazte pequeño. Reconoce que no eres nada. Y no sólo elige y se revela a los pequeños, sino que atrae a los pequeños: ‘Venid a mí, todos los que estáis cansados y oprimidos: os daré descanso’. Ustedes que son los pequeños – por el sufrimiento, por el cansancio… Él elige a los pequeños, se revela a los pequeños y llama a los pequeños. ¿Pero no llama a los grandes? Su corazón está abierto, pero los grandes no pueden oír su voz porque están llenos de sí mismos.  Para escuchar la voz del Señor, uno debe hacerse pequeño. (Santa Marta 23 de junio de 2017)
