A reading from the Book of Amos
AM 7:10-17

Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam,
king of Israel:
“Amos has conspired against you here within Israel;
the country cannot endure all his words.
For this is what Amos says:
Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and Israel shall surely be exiled from its land.”

To Amos, Amaziah said:
“Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah!
There earn your bread by prophesying,
but never again prophesy in Bethel;
for it is the king’s sanctuary and a royal temple.”
Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet,
nor have I belonged to a company of prophets;
I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores.
The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me,
‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
Now hear the word of the LORD!”

You say: prophesy not against Israel,
preach not against the house of Isaac.
Now thus says the LORD:
Your wife shall be made a harlot in the city,
and your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
Your land shall be divided by measuring line,
and you yourself shall die in an unclean land;
Israel shall be exiled far from its land.

From the Gospel according to Matthew
MT 9:1-8

After entering a boat, Jesus made the crossing, and came into his own town.
And there people brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic,
“Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.”
At that, some of the scribes said to themselves,
“This man is blaspheming.”
Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said,
“Why do you harbor evil thoughts?
Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’
or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?
But that you may know that the Son of Man
has authority on earth to forgive sins”–
he then said to the paralytic,
“Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home.”
He rose and went home.
When the crowds saw this they were struck with awe
and glorified God who had given such authority to men.

We call today on the Lord in the Mass for us, for each of us and for the whole Church, a conversion to Jesus, a conversion to Jesus, a conversion to the mercy of Jesus. And so the Law will be fully accomplished, because the Law is to love God and our neighbor as ourselves. (Santa Marta, 17 March 2015)

Am 7, 10-17

En aquel tiempo, Amasías, sacerdote de Betel, le envió este mensaje a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: “Amós está conspirando contra ti en Israel y el país ya no puede soportar sus palabras, pues anda diciendo que Jeroboam morirá a espada e Israel saldrá de su país al destierro”.

Amasías le dijo a Amós: “Vete de aquí, visionario, y huye al país de Judá; gánate allá el pan, profetizando; pero no vuelvas a profetizar en Betel, porque es santuario del rey y templo del reino”.

Respondió Amós:
“Yo no soy profeta ni hijo de profeta,
sino pastor y cultivador de higos.
El Señor me sacó de junto al rebaño y me dijo:
‘Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo, Israel’.

Y ahora escucha tú la palabra del Señor: ‘Tú me dices: No profetices contra la casa de Israel. No vaticines contra la casa de Isaac’. Pues bien, esto dice el Señor: ‘Tu mujer será deshonrada en plena calle; tus hijos e hijas morirán a espada; tu tierra se la repartirán los vencedores; tú mismo morirás en tierra pagana e Israel será desterrado lejos de su país’ ”.

Palabra de Dios.

R. Los mandamientos del Señor son verdaderos y enteramente justos.

La ley del Señor es perfecta
y es descanso del alma;
el precepto del Señor es fiel
e instruye al ignorante. R.

Los mandatos del Señor son rectos
y alegran el corazón;
la norma del Señor es límpida
y da luz a los ojos. R.

El temor del Señor es puro
y eternamente estable;
los mandamientos del Señor son verdaderos
y enteramente justos. R.

Más preciosos que el oro,
más que el oro fino;
más dulces que la miel
de un panal que destila. R.

Dios estaba en Cristo reconciliando al mundo consigo,
y ha puesto en nosotros el mensaje de la reconciliación. R.

EVANGELIO
La gente alababa a Dios, que da a los hombres tal potestad.
Lectura del santo Evangelio según san Mateo 9, 1-8

En aquel tiempo, Jesús subió de nuevo a la barca, pasó a la otra orilla del lago y llegó a Cafarnaúm, su ciudad.

En esto, trajeron a donde él estaba a un paralítico postrado en una camilla. Viendo Jesús la fe de aquellos hombres, le dijo al paralítico: “Ten confianza, hijo. Se te perdonan tus pecados”.

Al oír esto, algunos escribas pensaron: “Este hombre está blasfemando”. Pero Jesús, conociendo sus pensamientos, les dijo: “¿Por qué piensan mal en sus corazones? ¿Qué es más fácil: decir ‘Se te perdonan tus pecados’, o decir ‘Levántate y anda’? Pues para que sepan que el Hijo del hombre tiene poder en la tierra para perdonar los pecados, –le dijo entonces al paralítico–: Levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a tu casa”.

El se levantó y se fue a su casa. Al ver esto, la gente se llenó de temor y glorificó a Dios, que había dado tanto poder a los hombres.

Palabra del Señor

“Pidamos hoy al Señor en la misa por nosotros, por cada uno de nosotros y por toda la Iglesia, una conversión a Jesús, una conversión a la misericordia de Jesús. Y así la Ley se cumplirá plenamente, porque la Ley es amar a Dios y al prójimo, como a nosotros mismos”. (Santa Marta 17 de marzo de 2015 )
