“Cuando Israel era niño, yo lo amé,

R. Que brille tu rostro, Señor, y nos salve.

Pastor de Israel, escucha,
tú que te sientas sobre querubines, resplandece;
despierta tu poder y ven a salvarnos. R.

Dios del universo, vuélvete:
mira desde el cielo, fíjate,
ven a visitar tu viña.
Cuida la cepa que tu diestra plantó,
y al hijo del hombre que tú has fortalecido. R.

Mt 10, 7-15

En aquel tiempo, envió Jesús a los Doce con estas instrucciones: ‘Vayan y proclamen por el camino que ya se acerca el Reino de los cielos. Curen a los leprosos y demás enfermos; resuciten a los muertos y echen fuera a los demonios. Gratuitamente han recibido este poder; ejérzanlo, pues, gratuitamente.

No lleven con ustedes, en su cinturón, monedas de oro, de plata o de cobre. No lleven morral para el camino ni dos túnicas ni sandalias ni bordón, porque el trabajador tiene derecho a su sustento.

Cuando entren en una ciudad o en un pueblo, pregunten por alguien respetable y hospédense en su casa hasta que se vayan. Al entrar, saluden así: ‘Que haya paz en esta casa’. Y si aquella casa es digna, la paz de ustedes reinará en ella; si no es digna, el saludo de paz de ustedes no les aprovechará. Y si no los reciben o no escuchan sus palabras, al salir de aquella casa o de aquella ciudad, sacúdanse el polvo de los pies. Yo les aseguro que el día del juicio, Sodoma y Gomorra serán tratadas con menos rigor que esa ciudad”.

Si el camino del discípulo de Jesús implica ir más allá, salir hacia afuera para trasmitir la buena noticia de la salvación, hay que recordar que también existe otro camino del discípulo de Jesús: el camino interior, el camino hacia dentro de uno mismo, el camino del discípulo que busca al Señor cada día, en la oración, en la meditación. Este camino interior lo debe recorrer el discípulo porque si no busca siempre a Dios, el Evangelio que lleva a los demás será un anuncio débil, diluído, sin fuerza” y tambièn, si un discípulo no camina para servir, no sirve para caminar. Si su vida no es de servicio, no sirve para vivir como cristiano. En fin, el camino del discípulo realiza el servicio a Jesús en los enfermos, en los presos, en los hambrientos y en los desnudos. El camino del discípulo pone en práctica lo que Jesús nos dijo que debíamos hacer porque Él está allí, presente en el servicio a Cristo en los demás. Santa Marta 11 de junio de 2015

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Hosea
HOS 11:1-4, 8E-9

Thus says the LORD:
When Israel was a child I loved him,
out of Egypt I called my son.
The more I called them,
the farther they went from me,
Sacrificing to the Baals
and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
who took them in my arms;
I drew them with human cords,
with bands of love;
I fostered them like one
who raises an infant to his cheeks;
Yet, though I stooped to feed my child,
they did not know that I was their healer.

My heart is overwhelmed,
my pity is stirred.
I will not give vent to my blazing anger,
I will not destroy Ephraim again;
For I am God and not man,
the Holy One present among you;
I will not let the flames consume you.

From the Gospel according to Matthew
MT 10:7-15

Jesus said to his Apostles:
“As you go, make this proclamation:
‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
Cure the sick, raise the dead,
cleanse the lepers, drive out demons.
Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.
Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts;
no sack for the journey, or a second tunic,
or sandals, or walking stick.
The laborer deserves his keep.
Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it,
and stay there until you leave.
As you enter a house, wish it peace.
If the house is worthy,
let your peace come upon it;
if not, let your peace return to you.
Whoever will not receive you or listen to your wordsC
go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet.
Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment
than for that town.”

The journey of the disciple of Jesus is to go beyond [the limits] to bring this good news. But there is another pathway for the disciple of Jesus: the inner journey, the path within, the path of the disciple who seeks the Lord every day, through prayer, in meditation. If the disciple does not continuously seek God in this way, the Gospel that he takes to others will be weak, watered down – a Gospel with no strength. If a disciple is not journeying to serve, there’s no reason for the journey. If his life is not for service, there is no point in living the Christian life [it: non serve, per vivere, come Cristiano].  But the true disciple is called to service to the other: “service to Jesus in the sick, the imprisoned, the hungry, those with no shirt on their back. Jesus wants this of us because He is to be found in them:  “Service to Christ in others.”(Santa Marta, 11 June 2015)
